Chisholm Lake

If you hadn’t heard, we did a cleanup this weekend at Chisholm lake for the Great American Cleanup. We got a lot done, but unfortunately there’s a ton of trash left there. I went back this morning to gather more trash and to appreciate all the wildflowers. It really is a beautiful lake and meadow.

Yellow Goatsbeard. This guy is the one that makes the giant dandelion type seed ball!
This gaura is the wild version of the great garden favorite. It’s so cute and delicate!
Wine cup poppy mallow. I actually have a couple of these in my flower bed. They show up like beacons in any field.
Spiderwort, or prairie spiderwort. I also have a variety of this in my flowerbed.
This was my first time to see the magenta/pink variety. The spiderworts in this meadow were mixed colors, you can see the blue behind the pink in this photo. I love seeing things for the first time.
They are just as cute and fuzzy as the blue ones.
This one seems mixed pink and blue in one flower!! My favorite.
I saw a Monarch on a wine cup but didn’t get a photo. I feel lucky to have gotten close enough to this male black swallowtail to get a picture.
My favorite little red flower – Roxy – squinting at me because of her bad cataracts. She had so much fun!

  1. I never heard of Chisholm Lake. Did you camp out ? Wild flowers are a wonderful study in the beauty and amazing earth we aren’t taking care of. Glad you are helping pick up after those humans who just don’t get it.

    1. It’s a county reservoir, literally named Oknoname17. It’s in our neighborhood, which is called Chisholm Lake, so not many people have heard of it. It’s a beautiful place and deserves to be cared for. xoxo
