Wild Turkeys at Arcadia Lake 01/12/14

70°F. Windy.

Warm and windy! January in Oklahoma is unpredictable, but this January day reached 70° with high gusty winds. I went hiking and didn’t see a whole lot, until I came across a large flock of wild turkeys! I was tromping through dried leaves and made a lot of noise, so I will blame the high winds for them not hearing me approach.

I scared them…

They were running every which way and flying up into the trees. To watch an Eastern wild turkey fly is pretty funny and very loud. They don’t get much quieter once they are up in a tree, which makes me think they are easy prey, but I could be totally wrong. I love the little red bumps on its head and neck. I wish I were even closer!

I see turkeys fairly often at Lake Arcadia and I almost always see their footprints. I saw a few more later in my walk, and heard someone else scare them from across the creek. Crazy loud birds.
